GENE

Description

GENE (Gyrokinetic Electromagnetic Numerical Experiment) is a gyrokinetic code whose aim is solving the 5-D Vlasov equation using Runge-Kutta methods and calculating background field self-consistently through the gyroaveraged Poisson’s equation. It has the possibility to calculate the evolution in time of the particle and heat transport of active and passive (traces) particles, whose mass and charges can be defined by the user; in this way, it can be used quite easily to simulate the evolution of a large amount of impurities.

It was originally developed at IPP in Garching (Germany) and subsequently extended thanks to several collaborations.

The GENE code

SPC actively participates to the development of the code as well as to the interpretation of experimental results based on GENE simulations.
